AUSTRIA

Austria is a German-speaking country in Central Europe, characterized by mountain villages, baroque architecture, Imperial history and rugged Alpine terrain. Vienna, Austria’s capital, lies in the country’s east on the Danube River. Its artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethoven, and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its Imperial palaces, including Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence. In the Museums Quarter district, historic and contemporary buildings display works by Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, and other artists. The country’s other notable regions include the northern Bohemian Forest, Traunsee Lake, and eastern hillside vineyards.

We visited in September of 2017 and stayed at the Hilton Vienna Plaza. We explored Vienna using the Vienna Sightseeing, hop on hop off, bus and river cruise, and visited the Schonbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace, the State Opera House, Kunsthistorisches Museum and Maria-Theresien-Platz, and the Natural History Museum.
