Chile is a long, narrow country stretching along South America’s western edge, with more than 6,000km of Pacific Ocean coastline. Santiago, its capital, sits in a valley surrounded by the Andes and Chilean Coast Range mountains. The city’s palm-lined Plaza de Armas contains the neoclassical cathedral and the National History Museum. The massive Parque Metropolitano offers swimming pools, a botanical garden and zoo.
We visited Chile in August 2016 and stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton Santiago Vitacura. We explored Santiago and its surrounding areas, including enjoying a cultural show and dinner in the city, seeing the city’s beautiful architecture and street art, visiting La Sebastiana Museo de Pablo Neruda, wine tasting at Emiliana Organic Vineyards, taking a ride on the Funicular de Santiago, visiting San Cristóbal Hill and Cerro Santa Lucia.
