Group Getaways

Welcome to our Group Getaways page, here is where we showcase our annual King Dunston Getaways. The name “King Dunston” came about by taking Dr. Sheba’s maiden name “King” and combining it with our last name “Dunston.” Of course “Getaways,” comes from the simple fact we are always trying to get away (lol), but this time we convinced a group of people to travel along with us.  Checkout the fun below and be sure to join us on our next Annual King Dunston Getaway.

In May 2015, King Dunston Getaways organized a group trip to Curaçao with 50 travelers.
Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island, is known for its beaches tucked into coves and its expansive coral reefs rich with marine life. The capital, Willemstad, has pastel-colored colonial architecture, floating Queen Emma Bridge and the sand-floored, 17th-century Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue. It’s also a gateway to western beaches like Blue Bay, a popular diving site.

We stayed at the Hilton Curaçao Beach Resort in Willemstad. We enjoyed water sports and sunset cruising on the beautiful beach and explored Willemstad, including the Watamula Hole, Curaçao Liquor Distillery and Queen Wilhelmina Park; where you can take pictures with the “Curaçao” and “Dushi” signs. The group also enjoyed the casino and restaurants at the resort, as well as the bars and clubs in the surrounding area.

In May 2016, Kind Dunston Getaways organized a group trip to Panama with 50 travelers.
Panama is a country on the isthmus linking Central and South America. The Panama Canal, a famous feat of human engineering, cuts through its center, linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to create an essential shipping route. In the capital, Panama City, modern skyscrapers, casinos and nightclubs contrast with colonial buildings in the Casco Viejo district and the rain forest of Natural Metropolitan Park.

We stayed at the all-inclusive Hotel Riu Playa Blanca Resort. The group enjoyed the beautiful beach and pool at the resort as well as a variety of water sports. We also explored Panama City including a tour of the Panama Canal, viewed a ship passing through the famous Miraflores locks, and sailed on Gatun Lake around Monkey Island. The group enjoyed amazing food (and unlimited beverages) at the resort, as well as entertainment, clubs and lots of dancing!

In May of 2017, King Dunston Getaways hosted 20 travelers in our group trip to Cuba, organized by DiasporaES.

Cuba is a Caribbean island, only 105 miles south of Key West, Florida, with sugar-white beaches and is dotted with tobacco fields, which play a part in the production of the country’s legendary cigars. The capital, Havana, is lined with pastel houses, 1950s-era cars and Spanish-colonial architecture in the 16th-century core, Old Havana.

The group stayed at an Airbnb 8-bedroom luxury villa in Havana. We enjoyed exploring Havana on cultural tours of Old Havana and the surrounding areas. We visited sites including the Havana Rum Museum, Muraleando Community Art Project, Casa Museo de Africa, Finca Vigía Hemingway’s home in Cuba, Sábado de La Rumba at El Palenque and Callejón de Hamel. We also learned the basics of Casino (Cuban style “salsa”) from professional dance instructors, spent the day at the beach and enjoyed delicious Cuban cuisine. The group learned about the history of Cuba, its culture, and enjoyed beautiful weather and food.
