BELIZE

Belize is a nation on the eastern coast of Central America, with Caribbean Sea shorelines to the east and dense jungle to the west. Offshore, the massive Belize Barrier Reef, dotted with hundreds of low-lying islands called cayes, hosts rich marine life. Belize’s jungle areas are home to Mayan ruins like Caracol, renowned for its towering pyramid; lagoon-side Lamanai; and Altun Ha, just outside Belize City. We visited Belize twice, the first time we went to Belize City from a cruise ship, where we enjoyed snorkeling and a Calypso Island tour, the second time we flew directly to Belize and stayed on San Pedro Island. On the island we stayed in an upgraded 3-bedroom villa at the Mahogany Bay Beach Resort by Hilton and relaxed at Mahogany Bay’s private island with over-water cabanas. After a couple of days of relaxing on San Pedro Island, we took a small charter plane to Belize City. From Belize City we took a ride out to the Xunantunich Ruins, went cave tubing and returned for a small tour of Belize City where we took pictures of the Belize sign. Our experience of the country was absolutely wonderful.
