Croatia is an Eastern European country with a long coastline on the Adriatic Sea. Encompassing more than a thousand islands, it’s also crossed by the Dinaric Alps. Dubrovnik is a city in southern Croatia fronting the Adriatic Sea. It’s known for its distinctive Old Town, encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th century. Its well-preserved buildings range from baroque St. Blaise Church to Renaissance Sponza Palace and Gothic Rector’s Palace, now a history museum. Paved with limestone, the pedestrianized Stradun (or Placa) is lined with shops and restaurants. Dubrovnik is where King’s Landing, from the HBO Game of Thrones series, was filmed.
We visited Croatia in September 2017 to celebrate Ronnie’s birthday. We stayed at the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik, and explored this coastal city, particularly “Walking the Wall” where we walked along the Walls of Dubrovnik with amazing views of the sea and the beautiful ancient, Old Town.
