Macedonia, officially the Republic of Macedonia, is a country in the Balkan peninsula in Southeast Europe. It is one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia, from which it declared independence in 1991. Macedonia is a landlocked Balkan nation of mountains, lakes and ancient towns with Ottoman and European architecture.
We visited Macedonia in July 2018 while visiting Sofia, Bulgaria. We spent the day exploring Osogovo Monastery, a Macedonian Orthodox monastery located near Kriva Palanka, 10 kilometers from the Bulgarian border on Osogovo Mountain. Osogovo Monastery is home to an art colony and an architecture school.
