PERU

Peru is a country in South America that’s home to a section of Amazon rainforest and Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city high in the Andes mountains. The region around Machu Picchu, including the Sacred Valley, Inca Trail and colonial city of Cusco, is rich in archaeological sites. On Peru’s arid Pacific coast is Lima, the capital, with a preserved colonial center and important collections of pre-Columbian art.

We visited Peru twice. The first time, we visited Lima in February 2015 and stayed at the Hilton Lima Miraflores. We then returned in October 2018 to visit Cusco, specifically Machu Pichu (the last of the 7 Wonders of the World we visited together) and Rainbow Mountain. We stayed at the JW Marriott El Convento Cusco. In Lima, we visited the Plaza Mayor, Government Palace, and Basílica y Convento de San Francisco, as well as took a boat to watch the sea lions off of Palomino Islands. In Cusco, we explored the city including Plaza de Armas the central square in the old city. We traveled by Peru Rail to explore Mach Picchu and also climbed Rainbow Mountain, which is 17,060 feet above sea level.
