Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island and unincorporated U.S. territory with a landscape of mountains, waterfalls and the El Yunque tropical rain forest. In San Juan, the capital and largest city, the Isla Verde area is known for its hotel strip, beach bars and casinos. Its Old San Juan neighborhood features colorful Spanish colonial buildings and El Morro and La Fortaleza, massive, centuries-old fortresses.
We visited Puerto Rico three times in May 2010, August 2012 and January 2016. We stayed at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Golf & Beach Resort, Hilton Ponce Golf & Casino Resort and the Carib Hilton in San Juan. We also visited while cruising through the Caribbean. We explored San Juan, Old San Juan, Ponce and the surrounding areas including Castillo San Cristóbal and the San Juan National Historic Site. We also visited the El Yunque tropical rain forest, and hiked to the waterfall, La Mina Falls.
