Trinidad and Tobago is a dual-island Caribbean nation near Venezuela, with distinctive Creole traditions and cuisines. Trinidad’s capital, Port of Spain, hosts a lively carnival filled with calypso and soca music and parties. Carnival takes place on the Monday and Tuesday directly before Ash Wednesday, in February or March. Activities include the largest street parade in the world and bands of costumed masqueraders. The smaller island of Tobago is known for its beaches and the Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve, which shelters hummingbirds.
We visited Trinidad in May 2013 and stayed at the Hilton in Port of Spain. We explored the city and surrounding areas, including Maracas Beach and visited Sheba’s family. We enjoyed LOTS of YUMMY food, including bake and shark, doubles, macaroni pie, bake chicken and curry chicken.
