The United Kingdom, made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, is an island nation in northwestern Europe. England – birthplace of Shakespeare and The Beatles – is home to the capital, London, a globally influential center of finance and culture. England is also site of Neolithic Stonehenge, and centuries-old universities at Oxford and Cambridge.
We visited the United Kingdom twice. In the summer of 2012 we visited London (right before the 2012 Summer Olympics) and stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel London – Docklands Riverside. We explored the city sights, on the Hop on Hop Off Bus, and the Tube, including Buckingham Palace, London Bridge, The London Eye, Downing Street, The Tower of London and Big Ben. We visited again in 2016 after a European cruise. This time they visited historical Stonehenge and explored London again.
